New Zealand’s South Island has stunning landscapes, sommelier-worthy wine, and highly-priced nature-inspired accommodations. However, it’s no longer all of these facilities that might be sparking hobbies from site visitors; the tourism government says recent growth in visits is due largely to Instagram. So it’s no wonder that tourism is booming.

Lake Wanaka Tourism reached out to social media influencers in 2015 to proportion images of the island as part of a new marketing technique. “We have executed the whole thing from Insta-meets, when you get a whole lot of human beings coming collectively to take pictures to position on Instagram, to web hosting influencers from around the sector,” wellknown supervisor James Helmore said at the website Stuff.co.nz. “[Influencers] come upon as very credible and genuine, in preference to searching at an ad you know is being paid for via a corporation or a vicinity.”

Instagrammers are even taking pix in extra far-off areas of recent Zealand, too. Emilie Ristevski posted pix from Lake Rotoiti on the West Coast and Lindi’s bypass in imperative Otago.

The approach seems to be running. For the second year in a row, the South Island broke data, beating the North Island by nearly two to at least one within the number of “guest nights” (in a single day stay at a motel, lodge, backpacker, or holiday park from a traveler).
